The retail landscape has been evolving as a whole, and Chicago specifically has seen the brunt of a lot of these changes. More small business clothing retailers are looking for ways to set themselves apart from the national chains that are beginning to push out local retailers.
One of the newest ways that retailers are beginning to stand out amongst their competition is by creating an experience that other retailers can’t offer. Places like The Tie Bar on Armitage in Lincoln Park offer a “tie of the month” club and online retailers like Trunk Club offer personal styling and monthly looks delivered to your door.
The newest specialty fashion retailer to join the ranks of experience shopping is Style Room 326, a members-only style showroom set to open in Lakeview on April 29th. The showroom’s main objective is to give shoppers a sense of luxury and exclusivity.
Members of the Style Room 326 will be invited to exclusive events, pop-up shops, and fashion shows, DNAinfo reported. While membership starts at $69 annually, the first month will be free and members will get first access to items that are exclusive to the showroom.
This exclusive members-only model has been used before, although most evidently in lifestyle clubs. Soho House is one of the biggest examples of the exclusive members-only model.
Soho House, which is situated in the trendy West Loop, offers exclusivity to members like access to restaurants, lounges, and an extensive network of people in creative industries.
Style Room 326 is set to open later this month and while it offers a unique shopping experience; it faces an uphill battle against national retailers and a changing retail landscape.
